Like the business creators we support, Sage was a start-up in its early days. Our founder, David Goldman, wanted to automate the accounting processes in his business. He worked alongside a team of students from Newcastle University in the UK to develop software for this purpose – and saw that other companies could benefit as well.

In 1981, he created Sage. In 1998, Sage established itself in North America with the acquisition of Peachtree, a leading office accounting software.

Today Sage has more than 12,000 employees and supports more than two million clients in more than 20 countries in continental Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia, and Latin America.

The M-Files adventure began in 2002, when founder and current CEO Antti Nivala began developing document management software with a team of four in the city of Tampere, Finland. The first version of M-Files was launched in 2005, and four years later, the company opened a subsidiary in the United States, in Dallas (Texas).

In 2011, the product shifted towards intelligent information management, and the company’s revenue grew by more than 750% over the next five years. New offices were opened in the UK, France, Germany and Australia, and in 2017, M-Files acquired Apprento, a Canadian company specializing in artificial intelligence. At the same time, M-Files started to transition to a SaaS model.

M-Files is supported by Bregal Milestone, Partech, Tesi, and Draper Esprit. The company now has more than 500 employees who support 5,000 clients in 100 countries.
